Training course Generation and transmission planning

Customized training course that focuses on best practices in generation and transmission system expansion planning for regional integrated grid systems

Description:
Generation and transmission planningWhile transmission networks remain regulated, competition exists within the electricity generating sector.
Competitive wholesale markets are characterized by adherence to the principle that the quest for profitability will drive investment in generating capacity. In contrast to the way that the power industry was traditionally organized, power generation is now a regulated enterprise. Consequently, there is a need for a coordination mechanism for generation system expansion. A transmission system is regulated and transmission investment plans should be prepared.

The general objective of this training course is to expose participants to international best practices in generation and transmission system expansion planning techniques and methodologies that ensure an integrated grid can sustainably and cost-effectively meet the demand for new power generating capacity. Moreover, the course will provide the participants with insight into the major tasks of energy policy and energy regulation, and their interactions with the planning process.

The training will address not only the normative concepts but also daily working practice. Real-life problems and examples from previous projects will be considered in the form of case studies.
