PRIME is an OFDM based power line communication (PLC) technology, which specifies the lower layers of the data communication stack for automatic metering equipment. The technology is specified by the PRIME Alliance. PRIME is currently used for various large-scale smart metering projects in Spain. It has also been adopted as a communication profile for the European Open Meter Project, which will pave the way for extensive usage of PRIME as communication standard in future smart metering projects. This one-day course covers the history and scope of PRIME, as well as an elaborate treatment of the technical details of the protocol. Theory will be interspersed with practical examples and exercises.
