Condition Assessment
Condition assessment can be defined as the translation from data (O&M, diagnostics, inspections, failures) to information regarding the current and possible future condition relevant to these issues.
These issues range from the determination of the root cause of equipment failure to maintenance optimization projects or long-term investment planning. Condition assessment involves at least one item of the following sequence of activities:
- analysis of relevant historical data
- inspection and on-line diagnostics
- selection and application of advanced diagnostics
- internal inspection or destructive sampling.
Each activity justifies the other providing more specific information. The first and second activity can be performed with relative ease as a desk-top survey and condition scan. These services identify possible bottlenecks in the system or provide a lifetime expectancy. For a suspected component it provides an indication of the maintenance need. At the end of each activity findings and recommendations will be provided and the need for further assessment will be made clear.
