KEMA Receives Cathay Pacific China Trader Award
Firm Recognized for Business Innovation and Success in China Market
BURLINGTON, MASS.(December 4, 2007) – On November 15 th KEMA received the Cathay Pacific China Trader Award 2007 in recognition of its growing presence and success in testing, certification and consulting activities in China. The award is granted each year to a Dutch company that has developed its commercial activities in the Chinese market in an innovative, creative and successful manner.
In 2007, KEMA became the first fully owned sino-foreign company to be officially accredited by the Chinese authorities for product certification of electronic consumer goods and industrial components manufactured in China. KEMA currently operates four laboratories testing electro-technical products in China. Earlier this year the Chinese high-voltage system operator commissioned KEMA to take charge of quality control of the world’s first 800 kV HVDC transmission link. In addition to ultra high voltage consulting in China, KEMA is also actively engaged in consulting on coal blending processes and technologies.
The annual Cathay Pacific China Trader Award recognizes successful Dutch business in Hong Kong and China. The award was instituted 12 years ago by Cathay Pacific Airways, the China Council of the Netherlands Council for Trade Promotion and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. A jury of industry representatives such as ABN-AMRO Bank and Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, as well trade organizations and government agencies such as the Netherlands Council for Trade Promotion and the Dutch Ministry for Economic Affairs selects the winning applicant based on innovativeness, creativity and profitability demonstrated in import, export, production, manufacturing, joint-venture or other business activities.
As stated by the China Trader Award jury, “KEMA was nominated by 9 of 11 jury members and considered to be a very strong candidate from the start. Although KEMA offers a unique service in the Netherlands, in China KEMA operates in a highly competitive international field. Their presence in China has grown fast in the past four years and with their recent official accreditation of testing goods in China KEMA is only just starting. The jury has praised their visionary strategy, knowing that after the focus on price, quality and reliability will become increasingly important in China.”
