Andrea Traber Elected President of Bay Area Green Building Council
KEMA Director to Lead Model Chapter in Furthering Sustainable Building Practices
(BURLINGTON, MASS., February 27, 2007) – KEMA director of green building services, Andrea Traber, has been elected to a one-year term as president of the board of the Northern California Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC-NCC). Traber has been an active member of the Northern California Chapter since 2001.
The USGBC (US Green Building Council) is the largest green building group in the country, working together with a diverse group of stakeholders to transform the way buildings and communities are designed and constructed. It is a national organization with headquarters in Washington DC and over 60 Chapters nationwide. The USGBC is the author of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating system, the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings. The Northern California Chapter was established in 2001 and is one of the largest Chapters with over 450 members.
“The market and the design and construction industry have changed radically since 2001,” says Traber. “LEED has been a primary market driver, as well as institutional and agency adoption of green building, and, now, the entrance of private development into the green building movement. Our vision for the Northern California Chapter is to be a model chapter where design professionals, finance and real estate professionals, building owners, builders and all professions involved in project delivery engage to learn and share information that changes the market. We are a hub for professional education, networking, and innovation.”
Traber is Director of KEMA Services, Inc., Green Building Services, a full-service green building and energy efficiency consulting group. Traber is a licensed architect in the State of California, and a LEED® Accredited Professional. Her experience includes single and multifamily residential, community centers, commercial facility improvements and renovations, and campus housing and community facilities. She has worked with various construction systems including the “greening” of conventional systems, structural insulated panels (SIPs), insulated concrete forms, and even straw bale construction. She will serve a one year term as president of USGBC-NCC. She also serves on the Board of Directors of Build It Green and West Coast Green.
USGBC-NCC envisions a healthy planet where the built and natural environment embody global stewardship, value legacy and honor diversity for the future. We are a not-for-profit voluntary organization that educates, motivates, provides resources and advocates for industry transformation to build and maintain sustainable communities.
