KEMA provides electrical safety program for Dutch Defense Ministry.

KEMA has put together a program for the Defense Equipment Organization (DEO) at the Dutch Ministry of Defense, with the aim of raising electrical safety awareness and improving familiarity with the applicable regulations among relevant personnel. The DEO is also looking to add to its existing expertise, with the emphasis on specific military applications and situations.

Exploratory discussions highlighted the Ministry’s need for new guidelines to go with the statutory rules that its personnel have to follow. DEO chiefs also wanted a review of the current installation concept, plus recommendations on its application.

KEMA accordingly drafted a set of supplementary guidelines for the DEO’s internal use. In addition, a review was conducted and a reference reader developed for use by Defense Ministry experts – not only at the DEO, but also at the Logistics Center Woensdrecht, location Dongen. Plus, a two-day training course was put on for Ministry personnel. As well as introducing participants to the new guidelines, the course covered the legal framework, the main risks and the safety issues and pitfalls typically encountered in practice.

A further element of the program was the testing of a Defense Ministry generator at the Flex Power Grid Lab.
